Sapien is a digital multimedia artist specialising in visual art, music and sound manipulation. Working professionally in the music industry as a sound and graphic designer he has had the opportunity to work with many influential brands and individuals. He is often embraced for his creativity, originality, professionalism and ability to conceptualise ideas. Inspired by nature, technology and counterculture it is not uncommon for elements of these themes to feature prominently throughout Sapien’s creations. In his own words;
“I am a sampling advocate. I sample from everything. It started with music or maybe even earlier as a kid, collaging. I have always loved chopping snippets of sounds and reusing them in new and creative ways, in a similar way I like to mesh and reprocess material when creating visual imagery. This developed to become part of my ideology and personal philosophy. My internal sampler is always switched on, absorbing and filtering out the parts that resonate most with me.
Nothing is off limits, everything from music, art and technology, to thoughts and ideas. I collect mental snippets and reconceptualise them in my own unique way. I think we are all doing that to some extent. The important part is the inner filter each of us have. It’s there, the structures that form our identities are continually being built via this constant communication with our environment. Understanding why we like and dislike certain things I believe is a key to unlocking inner creativity in a new, authentic, original way.”
Sapien continues to work in a variety of mediums including music production, graphic design, video and motion graphics and as a sound designer for his sound supply label SoundsOfSapien®. Speaking on his ability to create in an array of multimedia disciplines he states;
“I think it can limit us to categorise ourselves by labels. Sure it makes it easier when your telling someone what you do but if I say i’m a graphic designer does that mean I can’t make music or art or cook, etc? I think i’m only just scratching the surface of all I can do, creatively speaking. If I put some kind of ceiling on that, then it has the potential to restrict all that is possible.”
This limitless approach to creativity continues to see Sapien involved in many inspiring works and collaborations with many of the music industries leading artists, brands and organisations. Want to work or collaborate with Sapien on your next release? Send him a Message Here.
